Les Quatre Cavaliers
'The Four Horsemen', Oil on canvas, 60 x 90 cm, 2015. It's a pity that the pun only works in English... but you can't have everything. Anyone in search of 'hidden meanings' will find them (or possibly won't) in The Revelation of St. John the Divine--but please don't write to tell me that the weapons "aren't right": I know. |
Le potiron ne dit jamais plus!
'Quoth the pumpkin never more!', Oil on canvas, 30 x 60 cm, 2015. My thanks to Edgar Allan Poe (for most of the title) and to all pumpkins everywhere (for the rest of it). This is not Mr Poe's original punctuation, of course... and there's no apostrophe in Finnegans Wake, either. |
Introduction & Allegro: Wardle
Oil on Canvas, 12" x 9", 2014. I was constantly listening to Elgar's 'Introduction & Allegro' for Strings, Op.47, while I was painting this. Wardle is a Pennine village in Lancashire, England, where I lived for over a decade. The painting is in the collection of Mrs Bernice Clifton, and is reproduced by kind permission. |
L'Énigme de Peyrou
'The Puzzle of Peyrou'. Oil on canvas, 16" x 20", 2013. This is my 'Regraduation' piece, following a very long time away from the easel. After a gap as long as that, there are certain things you have to re-learn; and there are other things that you have to "paint out of your system." |
